THE ASSAD'S ROLE
(PART 1)

Each time Israel attacks Lebanon, the Lebanese mercenary officials and leaders hail and salute the Syrian regime for its spontaneous heroic engagement with the invading Israelis in defending Lebanon. Like parrots, they take turns extolling the Syrian dictator for his 'sacrifices'. The bare fact is that the Syrians have never confronted the Israelis and did not fire even one bullet during any of Israel's numerous and devastating attacks against Lebanon. The Syrian Army is accustomed to hiding during Israeli attacks and instead of defending the country, its members ransack Lebanese houses and property. The Syrians support Lebanon through empty communiqués and repeat their cowardly, rhetorical justifications by saying " No one dictates to us when we should be engaged in a war with Israel, we will decide on the time and the place".

With no shame, these Lebanese mercenaries take advantage of every opportunity to brag about the imaginary battles the Syrian Army fought at the Golan Heights and Lebanon's frontiers. One of these collaborators boldly and with shame alleged that Syria sacrificed ten thousand soldiers to defend Lebanon and preserve its unity. In fact, the Syrian Army fought only the Lebanese, the Palestinians and the Arabs: never the Israelis.

The heroic tales of the Syrian Army are similar to a popular Lebanese story about a Lebanese mountaineer who headed to Beirut City to look for a job. He was lucky and got one at the American University of Beirut. Shortly after, he started to wear black spectacles and gave the people from his village the impression of being a musician. The man spent each weekend at his village during which the villagers came to listen to his stories about the big city and its cinemas, theaters, newspapers and other wonders. He routinely ended his stories by talking about music, which made the people more and more fond of him.

One day a curious villager asked the man about the nature of his job in music and insisted to know which instrument he played. The man became so embarrassed and stumbled, but after a while he could not hide the truth any more. He confused and said:" my job is to give cold water to the musicians when they are thirsty". The villagers laughed happily and one of them responded by saying: " so your job is only to keep the musicians going on".

The Syrian Assad regime is assuming, in the Arab world, a similar role to that of the villager. He is keeping the Israelis going on, no more and no less. The Syrian regime has instigated all the wars with Israel, but never participated in any of them because its leadership knew in advance that defeat would be their fate. The Syrian regime overtly claims the Israelis are satanic enemies and feigns anger against them. Meanwhile, it has covertly maintained a secret Israeli-Syrian relationship that is mutually peaceful and friendly.

The Syrians also negotiated with the Israelis numerous undeclared agreements that enabled their dictator and his regime to stay in power for quarter century. Because of the secretive friendly Syrian-Israeli relationship, the Syrian regime has been able to enslave our brothers, the Syrian people, for almost thirty years. At the same time he was able to weaken and attack the Palestinian resistance as a prerequisite milieu for the Madrid agreement. He also played a venomous role in dividing the Arab countries, thereby enabling the West to impose full hegemony on their natural resources.

The worst Syrian atrocities targeted the State of Lebanon. They destroyed its unity, confiscated its decision-making process, ruined its democracy, persecuted, imprisoned and murdered its patriotic leaders. They arbitrarily detained thousands of innocent Lebanese citizens in their notorious Nazi-like jails because they oppose their occupation. They resorted to the "divide and conquer" imperialist doctrine and through tactics of intimidation and persecution, they managed to divide political parties, denominations and even families. They enjoy seeing the Lebanese fighting with each other and do their best to instigate internal Lebanese problems to maintain their occupation and hegemony on the country and its resources.

The Syrian role in Lebanon as well as in the Arab world is a destructive one, void of any ethics or national affiliation. It is based on grudges, hatred, revenge, selfishness, cruelty and opportunism.

Let all these Lebanese mercenaries, collaborators and drum-beaters shut up and stop advocating for the Nazi-Syrian regime and its dictator.
