 A year prior too the event that occured on 13 October 1990, supporters of General Aoun created a human shield around the Presidential Palace in Baabda in an act of courage, bravery, freedom and honor towards their beloved country. For the first time in history, the people were defending their leader. People uniting together regardless if they were Christian or Muslim. Together they stood to protect and create a human shield protecting the Presidential Palace and their leader, General Michel Aoun. A clear sign of civilian patriotism. The Lebanese people had had enough, together they united to oust the common enemy. A year later, with a flash of teeth and claws, our enemy, Syria pounded on what remained free and liberated Lebanon. From the early hours of the morning, a cowardly attempt at bombing the Presidential Palace had taken place. To the Syrians there was no looking back. The Syrian troops that have been occupying Lebanon ever since 1984, over ran the Headquarters of General Michel Aoun, the Military Chief of Lebanon's Maronite Christians. On October 13, no organised military resistance to Syria now existed, in what was the arab world's best approximation of democracy. In the eyes of the Dictator, Lebanon was now a small province of Syria, but in the eyes of every patriotic Lebanese citizen, Lebanon would never bow to a ruthless Dictator and become a puppet regime like most, if not all its politicians. The Dictator as still unconvinced that the resistance of General Aoun and his supporters had been crushed. To prevent any further opposition to the dictatorship and his regime, gunmen dressed in the Lebanese Army uniform murdered another Lebanese patriot, Dany Chamoun and his family to make sure a re-birth of resistance would not occur. The Syrian attack on Lebanon is still described by many as genocide and an act of cowardly force to expand a hate regime headed by a two-headed beast, the Dictator - Hafez il Assad. The Syrian regime attempted to keep us, the Lebanese people quiet by assassinating our patriotic leaders, who are now matyrs in their own right. Matyrs like : SHEIK BASHIR GEYMAYEL DANY CHAMOUN ASSASSINATED PRESIDENT, RENE MOUAWAD MUFTI OF THE REPUBLIC, IMAM HASSAN KHALID DRUZE LEADER, KAMAL JUMBLATT PATRIOTIC CITIZENS WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES TO MAINTAIN A FREE LEBANON, A LEBANON FREE OF OUTSIDE FORCES. The occupation of Lebanon, both by the Syrians and the Israelis. are like a disease that has suppressed the people of our nation for too long. We must stand up and be accounted for, make our voices heard, show the rest of the world who the true Lebanese are, not show them who the "TAIF" Lebanese are.
