Tuesday June 16, 1998 The third and last day in Melbourne was reserved for the arabic and english speaking press. General Aoun explained his point of view regarding the Lebanese crisis and asked everybody to work towards helping Lebanon by urging for an international meeting under the UN supervision. This meeting's role will be to implement the UN resolutions, namely 425, 426 and 520. The least that can be done is to respect the right of a country that wants to rise with dignity even in its least way. He urged Australia through its deputies to help Lebanon attain this goal with the help of the UN and through the Human's Rights bill. Answering a question of his view of Lebanon after the departure of all the armed foreign forces, he said: "we demand free elections supervised by the UN, so that all the Lebanese people can vote freely."
The last banquet in Melbourne was offered by Monseignor Jo Takchi and attended by a large number of people among which was Monseignor Georges Pell. General Aoun thanked his host and all who showed him their affection and hospitality during this visit. He ended his journey by saying: " It is time to see the truth as it is and that is if we don't work hard together to win back Lebanon, our country will be lost for ever..I am here to ask you to work for Lebanon and not for me.. Work hard and I will work by your side or even in front of you in order to achieve Lebanon's freedom and sovereignty.. I am not asking for a position or personal gain to me or my family, all that I'm asking for is Freedom of Lebanon.. Let's forget our differences and work together.. In our country, the political differences fall under the democratic game, but when abroad these differences can be very harmfull regarding the unity of the Lebanese community. So stay away from all differences and always be as one." COPYRIGHT FREE LEBANON 1998. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED |
