 By: Elias Bejjani Lately, a wave of madness hit Lebanon and its politician. Exactly like contagious diseases the wave infected the minds of weak-willed citizens. It started on October 5, 1998 when General Emil Lahoud the army leader for the last eight last years, was bluntly appointed by Syria's dictator as Lebanon's tenth president. The peak of this madness was reached when 118 puppet members of the fraudulent Parliament met like kindergarten students to confirm, in a unanimous disguised vote, Lahoud's Syrian appointment. What presently is unfolding in occupied Lebanon is identical in stream and pattern to the chaos that prevailed in 1989. That year the "Taef Accord" was imposed on Lebanon and its people through aging parliamentary members. They stupidly handed Lebanon over to the Syrian invaders and betrayed their mandate as representatives of the people. Mercenary Lebanese politicians advocated the accord frantically, each according to the sum of money willingly took as bribes. They created public confusion and portrayed the accord as a salvation to all Lebanon's deep-rooted problems. General Michel Aoun, who was the Prime Minister and Army leader (1989-1990), played down the false claims; uncovered the Syrian scheme; refused to accept the implementation of the poisonous accord and dissolved the Parliament. He stood for the traitors and militarized the public to defend the dignity of their country. Ten years passed and the promised salvation did not happen, although General Aoun's legitimate government was cracked down through a military Syrian coup (1990) and General Aoun forced to go in exile. The "Taef Accord" was a big joke and a poisonous recipe. None of its clauses that serve the people of Lebanon were implemented. It was completely manipulated by the Syrian occupant and abused openly in a bid to strengthen Syria's hegemony on Lebanon and its people. Lebanon under the Taef era became a fully occupied country ruled by a Mafia-like puppet regime. The same vicious scenario is repeating itself with the same director and same extra actors, but this time with a different title and somewhat different agenda. The new title is the " Lebanese Presidency" for which the Syrian dictator has appointed General Lahoud to assume for the next six years. The agenda is to erase the peoples' patriotic memory after they have been subjected during the last eight years for all kinds of persecution, oppression, impoverishment, harassment, murder, exile and imprisonment. The ultimate Syrian goal is to annex Lebanon when regional and international circumstances are appropriate. The occupant and his local collaborators are frenetic, trying their best through the mercenary media and intelligence bureau to forge public opinion. They resorted to the meanest venues in a bid to portray the majority of the Lebanese people opposing the presidential sarcastic comedy as an isolated minority living outside history and detached from reality. They even faked and fabricated several disguised press releases supporting the appointment of General Lahoud and attributed them to imaginary, defected factions in the Free Patriotic Current. They are disparate and in a state of severe madness; they want to break and dismantle all patriotic groups and individuals that refuse to bow and kneel to the Syrian occupation and its appointed official puppets. Some political factions who were allies with the Free Patriotic Current fell into the occupant's trap and swiftly changed sides. They could not resist the temptation of official positions and joined forces with the collaborators dropping their eight years opposition stance. They sold themselves to the devil and proved as before to be shortsighted, weak and extremely opportunist in their political practices. Even some high-ranking religious leaders naively declared their support to Lahoud's appointment repeating the same fatal sins they committed in 1989. None of those politicians who changed sides are able to explain logically and rationally the reasons behind their sudden recognition of the Taef regime and its regional godfather, the Syrian occupation. The occupant is currently trying to establish a coalition comprised of some Christian parties and politicians who have been always for sale for the highest price. The mandate of this compound coalition will be to portray Lahoud as a president supported by the Lebanese community. The truth can not be shaded by any power, and accordingly all the occupant's evil endeavors to disguise the Lebanese public opinion will be aborted. Those politicians, who are always for sale, will abandon the Syrian occupant and his local puppets when some body else pays a higher price. Mr. Lahoud has no genuine public support, he is just another secretary, replacing Mr. Elias Hrawi who served his occupant master for the last eight years as an obedient subservient secretary. Mr. Lahoud was appointed not elected and shall never be dealt with as a legitimate president. He was appointed by the Syrians and the Syrians he shall serve. All modern and advanced cosmetics and make-up technology will not be successful in make him look like a patriotic president. By God's will, the struggle for liberation will go on until holy Lebanon returns as an independent country, free from all foreign troops, their subsidiaries and collaborators. During the last six thousand years of Lebanon's deep-rooted history thousands of tyrants, conquerors and invaders from all over the world, including Alexander the Great, tried to succumb Lebanon, enslave its people and destroy the Lebanese identity. They were all defeated and forced to depart with disgrace: Lebanon emerged victorious. The fate of the current occupiers shall not be different even if they delude themselves with their inflated sick egos. Long Live Free Lebanon. |
