By: Colonel Fayez Karam (Translated freely: By Elias Bejjani) We constantly talk about terrorism, see its results, live its horror at times and all recognize it to be one of the major concerns at the end of the 20th century. Terrorism is becoming more widespread and cruel. It is transformed into peoples' minds a's an evil practice that has no ethical or moral constraints. It inflicts harm on all, typically causing more damage to innocents than to criminals. Terrorism is the result of sinful, condemnable acts infringing on laws with no restrictions on place or time. Terrorism takes place only when nurtured by certain societies or countries assisting individuals committing it not to be accountable for their acts. Such instigators should be held fully responsible for protecting, supporting and justifying terrorism. Terrorism is always encountered with retaliation and thankfully, very few individuals but for rank fanatics have the treachery to involve themselves in such actions. Although terrorist vehicles might differ, its results are always the same. It is borne from deviation and anomaly, not governed by any law or standard. It affects us through military acts or in disguised forms of media, politics, religion, fanaticism, odd beliefs and other intellectualized means. Internationally, terrorism is faced by a selfish and indecisive stance adopted by big powers mostly contradicting in nature. These powers deal with terrorism in accordance to their own interests. They protect, support, accept, justify and even take part in its occurrence when serving their interests and condemn and fight it when it does not. Big powers fight terrorism with terrorism and by double standard enforcement of international laws. Their current prevailing self-made and strange covenant of international slavery does not invite belief in any law or ethical constraints. They adopted force as their law in a bid to protect their interests. Their practices are mere acts of haphazard and criminal terrorism hurting innocent people all over the world and forcing upon them their judgement and wishes in a brutally authoritarian manner. Between one form of terrorism and another, innocent people all over the world are paying the price alone. They are victims of unfair international agreements and compromises justifying the presence of tyrants and dictators in authority in many countries. Such agreements do not respect laws, human rights or international covenants. They give priority to individual interests and ignore laws and all kinds of moral and ethical principles. Big powers side with and support dictators who have power, confiscate authority from those who have rightfully earned it and oppress their own people. Terrorism knows no boundaries. It can be exercised on a small area or extended to include specific regions. It is not justifiable or acceptable no matter what shape or form it takes. Any group or country, big or small, powerful or weak that does not abide by international laws and resorts to terrorism to protect its interests should be held accountable for its acts. International acts of murder, destruction, media manipulation, deception and intimidation are not acceptable and should be tagged as crimes against humanity no matter who is committing them, be it a group of guerrillas or a big, powerful country. Any assaults even on Sudan, and any sanctions even on Iraq, are not justifiable as long as they are reactions to certain actions affecting innocent people and camouflaged by fake media and campaigns of vicious deception towards the public. Speaking out against big and powerful countries and their roles in the realm of terrorism and law enforcement, one can not justify the Arab League?s laissez-faire role in this domain. The Arab League's mandate is to safeguard and protect laws and international covenants, but in reality it is contradicting its mandate. It is acting in accordance to directions, strategies and politics of big powers in general and in accordance to the USA's wishes and interests in particular. The Arab League has abandoned its role and accordingly accepted consequences and effects for its subservient stance. It is meaningless for anyone to brag about the current new global political system that is making the whole world suffer because of its sponsor's conduct...countries and individuals inclusively. There is no logic or justice in justifying such evil and vicious conduct that can not be camouflaged by an adventure of a president or by diverting and misleading the public attention away from a scandal through an assault on a specific group or country. Big powers should never ignore the historically proven reality of the existence of inhumanely forced solutions on certain countries and their oppressed people. Atrocities pave the way for revolutions and create appropriate milieus for terrorism and its spread in the future. The only venue to extricate peoples and countries from this vicious cycle is through respect and implementation of laws, international covenants and justice. Long Live Free Lebanon |
