H. E. GENERAL M. AOUN:
I ACCUSE THE AUTHORITIES OF NEGLIGENCE

General Michel Aoun expressed his deeply felt sorrow for the Army martyrs and innocent civilians killed during the last six days in North Lebanon. Aoun extended his condolences to the martyrs' families and held the Beirut authorities fully responsible for the incidents that stormed North Lebanon and other parts in the country. He said: " Every time Syria feels its presence in Lebanon is threatened it instigates wars and serious internal security problems to justify the continuation of its occupation. It is an ongoing trend, and Syrian officials including Vice president Khadam have threatened the Lebanese with a civil war several times, in case the Syrian army is forced to leave their country. He added: We have learned a few month ago that militant groups under different names, sponsored by the Syrian intelligence were infiltrating Lebanon and made ready to be used when needed. A high ranking Syrian official during his recent visit to Paris, threatened that Lebanon will encounter political and security problems. We took his threats as open tactics to intimidate Lebanon's Christians who in their majority oppose Syrian occupation of their country. We also learned in Paris that Syria is helping these groups with weapons, training and infiltration in North Lebanon. Aoun stated that condemning the incidents is not enough, but the identity of those who stand behind them should be uncovered. Aoun called on the Beirut authorities to inform the public about the incidents and unveil all facts or otherwise resign. Aoun stated that the unrest status in Lebanon suits Syria and Israel and gives them the needed justifications for contracting the Israeli-Lebanese border to the Syrian army. The Lebanese Army Aoun added is more then capable of executing all assignments needed provided Syria and Israel put an end to their illegal interferences.

Aoun condemned the recent brutal murder of the Antoinette Nun, Sister Antoinette Zaydan and called on the Lebanese people not to react communally to the crime because the criminals who stand behind it are trying to instigate sectarian feelings and milieus among them. He called on the Lebanese people to focus their efforts merely on means and ways that will abort the ongoing conspiracy.
